Getting Started

What is Universe?

Universe is the easiest way to make a website. Choose a custom domain, build your site, and share it in less than a minute—all on your iPhone, for free.

What kind of sites can I make?

Lightweight landing pages for you, your business, or your next event. It's the perfect thing to link to on your Instagram bio.

Where can I get Universe?

Universe is available on the App Store.

How much does Universe cost?

Universe is free to use with a Universe URL (i.e, example.onuniverse.com) and custom domains start at $2.99, including .com.

Creating Sites

What custom domains does Universe offer?

We offer the most popular domains like .com, .net, and .org. But we also offer over 150 other top-level-domains (TLDs) like .space, .party, and .fm. Each TLD is priced differently.

How are sites built on Universe?

Whether you begin with the Magic Builder or start from scratch, all sites are built on our breakthrough grid interface, with customizable building blocks.

What blocks are available?

Right now, we have photo, video, text, link, contact, map, code, and color blocks. With those basic ingredients, the possibilities are nearly infinite.

How does the video block work?

Videos on Universe are 3 seconds, soundless, and looping. You can think of them more like GIFs than large videos. If you want to add a larger video, we recommend uploading your video to Vimeo or Youtube and linking to it.

Will Universe add more blocks?

Definitely. That's why we designed the grid interface. It's built to grow its capabilities over time. We have a ton of ideas for new blocks, but we'd love to hear from you: just send a note to feedback@onuniverse.com with your thoughts.

Can I move a block?

Yup. To move a block, tap and drag it to another position on the grid.

Can I resize a block?

Yes you can. Just pinch or grab a corner of where the block is on the grid.

Can I make changes to my site after publishing?

Sure can. Just tap edit under your site to update it.

Can I make my own blocks?

You can use the Code Block to build your own blocks. You can even submit a code snippet so that other people on Universe can use it.

How do I delete my site?

Tap on your site and scroll down to the bottom. Then tap "Delete Site." Remember, to change your subscription you'll need to go to the App Store. Directions here.

How will I be billed for Universe?

If you purchase a custom domain with our in-app subscriptions, you will be billed by Apple every month. You can cancel your subscription at any time through the App Store. Directions here.

Can I buy a custom domain after I've made a site?

Yes you can. Just tap Upgrade Domain from your site's dashboard.

Can I transfer my domain from GoDaddy to Universe?

We don't support transfers because GoDaddy makes it especially difficult to move off of their service, but you can "forward" your GoDaddy domain to your Universe site. Here are the directions: Forwarding Domain. Make sure to choose the option to "mask" it.

If I cancel my subscription, will my site be deleted?

Your site won't be deleted, but you won't be able to edit it. If you want your domain removed from the internet, email us at help@onuniverse.com

I'm having trouble with in-app subscriptions. Can you help?

Absolutely. If your question isn't covered here, email help@onuniverse.com.

Troubleshooting and Contact

I just made my site, but it's not showing the right URL in Safari. Why?

When you register your site, it needs to “propagate” throughout the internet. This usually takes less than 10 minutes, but it could take up to a day to register with your actual URL. You can try it on another device before that though. We know this isn't a great experience, but it's the way the internet is built and out of our control.

I'm getting a "Failed to subscribe" error when attempting to purchase a custom domain.

Issues related to in-app subscriptions are sometimes caused by Apple's systems for handling in-app transactions, especially with new accounts. We recommend you contact Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE to fix the problem. Make sure that you specify that it's an iTunes Store issue, not an iPhone one. If, after contacting Apple, you still have trouble, reach out to us at help@onuniverse.com

How can I contact you with questions?
